Tide Circles...

Tide circles: made by aliens? The photograph, made at 6:20 this morning, shows curious formations in the sands once the tide had retreated in Poole Harbour, Dorset.
I've seen the markings before, and the "aliens" remark is made with my toungue firmly in cheek; but the patterns remain a curiosity for which I have no compelling hypothisis, other than they are produced by tidal action - not man-made.

While we sleep...

Taking advantage of a break in the unsettled weather I'm on my bike for an early start, before sunrise.
Both images, shot this morning, illustrate the struggle the town council and residents have in keeping things in order.
Bournemouth and Poole boast eight Blue Flags between them for beach quality, and it requires constant maintenance to keep them in excellent condition for tourists and locals alike. The top photograph shows the sand being raked at Canford Cliffs, shortly after 5:30 this morning, helping to keep the beach free from foreign objects.

The second photo shows the result of mindless action by person(s) unknown, who persistantly overturn the waste and recycling bins situated at regular intervals along the promenade during the night, spilling the contents: this in turn attracts scavengers and vermin.
This antisocial behaviour and potential health hazard then has to be cleaned up by two shifts of 60 workers - four hours in the morning and four in the evening - along the seven mile stretch of sand. The teams are funded by money which comes from the local council taxes. It appears that those responsible for creating the mess either don't care how much tax they pay or are unaware that it will cost them financially at some point in the future.

Rock on, Neil Armstrong.

Boscombe Manor latest image...

Cycling past Boscombe Manor at 5am today I was surprised to see just how much progress has been made on the renovation of the structure since my last visit (6th December 2008 post). However the light was not at its best (the sun had yet to rise) so I returned three hours later to shoot the photograph.
The south facing walls have been rendered and painted, new windows installed and the external scafolding removed. The brick extension to the left which housed the theatre still has the windows boarded up; the area remains very much a building site.
This is welcome news for a building that was threatened with demolition at the turn of the century but now has a new lease of life, with a new doctor's surgery on the premises scheduled to be open in the autumn.
